Ionet Overview
io.net aims to establish a globally accessible, decentralised cloud computing network to provide affordable, flexible and unrestricted access to computing capacity for developers globally.
The platform introduces $IO as a proposed standard currency for computing transactions, facilitating an ecosystem that includes products and services that make computing accessible as both a resource and an asset. This ecosystem utilises computing as a currency, enabling functionalities such as the development, training and deployment of machine learning models on blockchain platforms including Aptos and Solana.
The $IO token is positioned to serve as a universal medium for computing exchanges, addressing the increasing demand for computing resources which outstrips supply, primarily driven by growth in AI and machine learning. To address this, io.net is developing the IOG Network, a decentralised "Internet of GPUs" consisting of millions of distributed nodes managed by a range of operators from individual consumers to enterprise-grade data centres. This network aims to provide democratised, permissionless access to AI computing globally.
The IO ecosystem comprises:
IO as a currency:
IO, the native coin of the IOG Network, supports economic incentives within the ecosystem, balancing the needs of different user groups including GPU Renters, GPU Owners and IO Coin Holders. The system allows transactions in $IO, though it accommodates payments in fiat and other digital currencies to simplify transactions and promote $IO demand.
The network’s revenue is derived from transaction fees on compute reservations and payment methods. Security and collateralization are enforced through a staking mechanism requiring nodes to maintain a minimum balance of $IO, ensuring network integrity and encouraging active participation.
Tokenomics:
The tokenomics of IO include a fixed maximum supply of 800 million $IO, with emissions and rewards designed to decrease over time. A coin burn mechanism is implemented to mitigate inflation and enhance the token's value, aligning with structured economic incentives within the network. This strategic framework is designed to empower global developers by providing equitable access to essential computing resources.
Allocation Overview;
Initial Allocation
At launch, io.net will release an initial supply of 500,000,000 $IO, allocated across five categories: Seed Investors, Series A Investors, Core Contributors, Research & Development and Community. Over the next 20 years, the total supply will expand to 800,000,000 $IO as the currency is emitted to encourage growth and adoption of the network.
Unlocks and Rewards
The initial supply of 500 million $IO will adhere to release schedules outlined below. Moreover, as rewards are distributed, they will enhance the circulating supply, which consists of $IO that is freely tradable without on-chain restrictions. In contrast, the locked supply includes $IO that is vested and not yet in circulation. The available supply encompasses $IO that is either actively circulating or issued but still locked, excluding unreleased rewards. The maximum supply is capped at 800 million $IO, the total that will be available after all emissions.
Pro Forma Allocation
As rewards are distributed by the IOG Network, the proportion allocated to early backers and Core Contributors will diminish, whereas the Community’s share is projected to increase to approximately 50% following the distribution of all rewards. This adjustment reflects the shifting focus towards a more community-driven model as the network matures.
